As a young child growing up in the south of Ireland in the 1980s, I had no email, internet, Insta or Tiktok. The only way to communicate from a distance was by letter. And I totally loved sending and receiving mail.

Even if I didn’t know the precise address, I would send a letter anyway. Mostly that was fine as I’d write to diplomatic offices with letters like the one I addressed to the ‘Chinese Embassy, Dublin’ asking for brochures about China. The good old Irish postal…
